iD.037Colonious Monk Collective 2English: If you think there's nothing as cool as profiling oneself as an antisocial asshole in coarse lyrics over hardcore beats, you better draw another line and immediately quit reading any further. If, though, listening to rap-tracks that propagate Berlin ghetto-romance and bragging about the size of one's dong in broken German, makes you feel infinitely tired, you are probably pretty right here. Already with their first compilation on iD.EOLOGY, the Colonius Monk Collective set a refreshingly avangardistic counterpoint to nowadays' mainstream-rap-business. On the follow-up the Collective, consisting of the Broke Gringos Larsaction, Gringo Starr, Slomo, SEL and Lunte as well as Fleur Earth and the Broke Lovers Sextet, gathers with the producers Major, V.raeter, Til Schneider, Reechaad and Nanobastards to supply us with beats full of funk, jazz and soul plus some new insights into their perspective on things. Without backpacking but with truckloads of wit, irony and profoundness, they tell true as well as ficticious stories about the lives of unrecognised geniuses, casually binning popular cliches of an existence on the brink of society. While avoiding the use of the index-finger, they make some statements that'll raise your awareness for realities that rap usually replaces with egomaniac delusions of grandeur. The result is original like the crossing of Axel-Springer- and Rudi-Dutschke-Street in Berlin, thoughtful like Sloterdijk after two glasses of red wine and real like freshly squeezed orange-juice - only that it tastes even a wee bit better.
Schon mit ihrer ersten Compilation auf iD.EOLOGY setzte das Colonius Monk Collective einen angenehm avangardistischen Kontrapunkt zum aktuellen Mainstream-Rap-Geschehen. Auf dem Nachfolger kommt das Kollektiv aus den Broke Gringos Larsaction, Gringo Starr, Slomo, SEL und Lunte sowie Fleur Earth und dem Broke Lovers Sextet mit den Produzenten Major, V.raeter, Til Schneider, Reechaad und Nanobastards zusammen, um uns auf Beats voller Funk, Jazz und Soul neue Einsichten in ihre Sicht der Dinge zu gewähren. Weit von allzu bravem Backpackerbrauchtum entfernt, erzählen sie mit viel Wortwitz, Ironie und Hintergründigkeit wahre und fiktive Geschichten aus dem Leben verkannter Genies, treten dabei lässig die populären Klischees einer Existenz an der Unterkante der Gesellschaft in die Tonne und schärfen mit ihren zeigefingerlosen Statements den Blick auf Realitäten, die im Rap üblicherweise gern zugunsten von egomanem Größenwahn ausgeblendet werden. Was da entsteht, ist originell wie die Kreuzung Axel-Springer- / Rudi-Dutschke-Straße in Berlin, nachdenklich wie Sloterdijk nach zwei Glas Rotwein und echt wie frisch gepresster Orangensaft - nur dass es noch ein wenig besser schmeckt.
